Career Country is a multifaceted region of Denmark where the cultural institutions cover historical developments over the course of more than a millennium. In Career Country, you will find Ribe, the oldest town in Scandinavia, and Esbjerg, the youngest town in Denmark. Ribe Cathedral is always worth visiting. Standing in its tower, looking out over the town and contemplating how the Danish Monarchy was once based in Ribe is quite fascinating. Ribe’s town centre with its cobbled streets, historical houses and idyllic atmosphere gives peace of mind. The Wadden Sea is a vast, important part of the area’s natural heritage. The Wadden Sea is a favourite resting area for millions of migrating birds and provides all the nutrition and calm they need for continuing their long journey. The Wadden Sea Centre houses exhibitions and conducts tours in and around the Wadden Sea. One of its new features is an oysters safari.

The island of Fanø has some of the best bathing beaches in Denmark. Fanø is only a 12-minute boat ride from Esbjerg. The Fisheries and Maritime Museum is a big attraction, just like Mennesket ved Havet (Man Meets the Sea) a nine-metre-high stone sculpture located on Sædding Beach, near the museum. You can gather mussels on the shore.

At the waterfront in Esbjerg you will occasionally be lucky to see one of the North Sea’s gigantic drilling rigs close up when they’re towed to Esbjerg for repairs. Special boat trips originate from the Port of Esbjerg and take passengers out to the large wind farms situated in the North Sea west of Esbjerg. Career Country has countless green areas, vast woodlands and forests offering recreational Sunday outings with a picnic basket. A trip to the swimming baths at Sport & Event Park Esbjerg is always a sure winner for young and old alike.
